🧵 DIY Patchwork Cat Cushion (Made Entirely From Fabric Scraps!)

    Reversible, beginner-friendly, and zero-waste!

Every day, we’re bombarded with ideas on the internet – especially if you’re the creative type and your social media feed is filled with never-ending DIY projects to try.

On one hand, that can be a beautiful thing. There’s something lovely about being inspired daily to make and create. But on the other hand, it can also get a bit overwhelming. Sometimes, it actually pulls you away from your own creative ideas.

That’s why this week felt so refreshing – because the inspiration came from my past self.

While going through my craft cupboard, I stumbled upon an old cat-shaped sewing template I made a decade ago, right at the beginning of my sewing journey. I had a grey cat at the time, and I felt called to make a cushion inspired by him. ☺️

As soon as I saw the pattern again, I knew I wanted to remake it – this time, using only my fabric scraps and what I had on hand.

Originally, I planned to stuff the cushion with hobby fill… but halfway through the process, I remembered my bag of tiny offcuts and thought, why not use those instead?

So I did – and I used the entire bag!

It ended up being a totally zero-waste project, which felt incredibly satisfying!

This week’s YouTube video walks you through how to make one from start to finish.

It’s not just a great scrap-busting project – it’s reversible too! One side is a colourful patchwork, and the other is a simple embroidered cat face with hand-stitched whiskers, nose, and ears. You can flip it depending on your mood or how you want it displayed.

If you’ve been saving scraps and wondering what to do with them, I hope this gives you some inspiration. It’s a gentle, slow sewing project – and a little reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be fancy or complicated to be meaningful.
