🎨 From Patchwork Curtain to Patchwork Jeans

Have you ever worked on a creative project, initially with excitement, but then somewhere along the way it just started to feel clunky and perhaps misaligned?

That’s exactly what happened with my recent patchwork curtain project.

The vision: a beautiful, scrappy, colourful curtain.

However, when I sat down to actually make it, I felt stuck. The energy wasn’t flowing, and the joy I usually feel when sewing just wasn’t there. For a while, I tried to push through, but I eventually realised: I needed to pause and change direction.

So I did something I haven’t done in a while… I sewed something just for fun, not for content, not for a deadline. Just for me. Which ended up being a patchwork men’s denim jacket.

That little act of sewing-for-joy – connecting with my inner child and letting go of the “shoulds”– helped me get unstuck and gain clarity on my next project.

I knew I wasn’t returning to the curtain idea.

Instead, I decided to use the patches I had originally made for the curtain as a fun and vibrant feature on a pair of old jeans.

In my latest YouTube video, I take you along on that creative pivot – how I went from feeling blocked with a curtain to feeling lit up by the idea of upcycling an old pair of jeans with quilt blocks and patches.

It’s not just a video about jeans – it’s a reminder that creativity doesn’t always follow a straight line. And that’s okay.
